I Bought My First 3D Printer

I've always wanted a 3D printer, and in mid-December of last year I ordered one. A dual-head Prusa XL to be exact. I know this printer has been rather controversial, with mixed reviews and complaints about various small issues along with its high price. I've 3D printed a variety of things over the years, but never on my own printer. I've always either used a school's printer, borrowed a friend's cheap 3D printer, or had somebody print something for me. I've never owned a 3D printer for myself. I've never had the money, space, or time to do anything with it. I have had plenty of projects that I have put off because of the inability to design my own precise hardware though.

When I wanted my own printer, I adhered to the same philosophy I always try to stick to. I wouldn't call myself entirely minimalist but if I'm going to buy something, I want a very high quality and long lasting version of that thing. I don't like buying something cheap just to have it break or need so much repair that I end up spending the same amount of money I could have spent on something better. I also hate having to sell my stuff in order to get something better. I'd rather just wait, save up, and buy the better thing right off the bat.

I also have had experience working with cheap 3D printers. They are a chore. I've had the glass cut at the hardware store for the printbed (I've also cut myself on that glass pretty badly, always remember to sand those edges ASAP). I've done the manual bed leveling. I loathe manual bed leveling.

I had looked at the Prusa i3 MK3S+ because years ago when I was first thinking about buying a 3D printer (note how long I've been putting this off) the consensus online seemed to be that for a hobbyist FDM printer the build quality was fantastic and the support was some of the best in the industry. By the time I had decided to buy one, the Prusa XL was already available, albeit through pre-order with a long waitlist, though not as bad as when it first came out. To some degree my mind was already set on Prusa, it was just a matter of "which Prusa".

With this printer I get a large build volume, multi-material printing, and all the bells and whistles of a higher-end printer. I also get Prusa's support and updates. The fact that it took around 4 months to ship hasn't really mattered to me since I wouldn't have used it in that time period anyways.
